info:
Early in the day E had a lot of press to do, including a photoshoot with Dutch photographer Paul Bergen. In the evening, the show at the Paradiso was kinda odd. Not only because Susan's House was played before Fingertips Pt.III, but mainly because EELS was faced with a quite annoying audience that kept on talking throughout the entire show. At one point the talking got so loud that E made a remark during Guest List: "I guess the people talking must be on the guestlist... the people who paid want to listen!"
His remark did not seem to have any effect. The band really tried the best they could and this resulted in quite a legendary EELS gig. Once the regular set was over, the greater part of the audience left and the fans were treated to no less then five encores. Three of which with the house lights on. Later in the career of the EELS that became not too exceptional, but in early 1997 these 'surprise encores' were still quite rare. When roadie Spider came up the stage saying: "Ladies and gentleman, the EELS have left the building" the show was really over.
A 30 minute EELS tv-special was filmed in Amsterdam on April 12, 1997. It features interviews with E, backstage shots of the band arriving at Paradiso and snippets of the live performance. It was broadcast by dutch tv-station VPRO during a program called Loladamusica in june 1997.
