Review

It's downright incredible what these guys do with a mere 3 person lineup. It was just as much comedy as it was a gig. Plus, the location was excellent. The Passionskirche is a really beautiful catholic Church with coloured glass windows, figurines, extremely comfortable wooden seats and all that. As E remarked after introducing Adam, the new bass player, "it's his first time in a church". After Cancer For The Cure that had a fake ending like they wanted say "Hey this is the EELS this is not your run of the mill gig!"

The gig featured incredible versions of songs that I never thought were any good, like Efil's God (which E dedicated to a guy that cried "Buuutch!" earlier and seems to be following them around) and Dead Of Winter. Not Ready Yet - a 10 Minute version with more tempo and volume changes than you can imagine. E sang the first two verses, then he shouted "forgive me Jesus" and let his guitar howl. Encores were Hopital Food (horrible version, although interesting: E was only doing bongos, I never liked the tune anyway), 3 Speed (love that song!) and Open The Door.

On the whole I can say this was a great gig, the audience was as good as the musical qualities and the constant changes in tempo and volume, which means all was great! I just cannot believe how good the sound was with only three people playing! It ws *never* boring because of the "special effects" they built into most of the songs. A very very good gig.
