Review
This was a seated show, which is unusual for the 9:30 (a mini-arena type place), but cozy and intimate. Then Lisa Germano took the stage. I was impressed! She has an absolutely beautiful voice and was in good spirits and so wonderful that I'm going to buy her album. Now for EELS. They just shined! They were all decked out in suits and hats and opened with Cancer For The Cure, which rocked and they continued to play album songs. E made it through Electro-Shock Blues but looked so sad... he just stared at the organ. For the most part everyone was quiet during the slower stuff, but showed that they were alive for the faster songs.
The 'applause' sign was clever and the audience certainly responded to it. E was his usual witty self and Adam and Butch looked like they were having the best time. After the show E left right away to be with his mother... Butch and Adam stayed and talked a bit. In response to my comment that the picture of them playing croquet in a graveyard was disturbing, Butch said that the album was about embracing death and finding some sort of peace and fun with it.
