The first we saw of E and EELS was on the channel 5 programme, TFI Friday. They were playing Mr. E's Beautiful Blues. What a great number too. Coincidentally, the local rag was advertising EELS in concert at Norwich. We quickly bought 2 tickets. In addition I purchased the single and the Beautiful Freak album which became an instant like for me.

At around 9.00pm, members of the band started wondering on stage as if on some aimless Sunday morning stroll around the park. They played a 5 minute reprise of EELS material. Then enter E! It wasn't long before we realised we were watching something special.

What a talented bunch of musicians too. Mr E playing fine guitar and keyboards, The Colonel with a super style on both electric and double bass. Lisa Germano showing her versatility playing a wide assortment of instruments as well as offering E vocal support. Butch himself demonstrating excellent use of drums and percussion. Finally the rhythmic horn section of Santa and his little helper.

EELS played through a lot of their catalogue including excellent songs from Daisies Of Tthe Galaxy before finishing the set after an hour. The first encore comprised of 4 songs including Novocaine For The Soul. E shouted for a roadie to pass his bongos and launched into Hospital Food. The second encore was 2 songs. The band left the stage for the 'last time and the house lights came up and as the crowd began to empty the venue the band entered for a third time playing just 1 more song.'
