With one hell of a strange support act: Knuckles the Comedian. With Smoosh no longer as a support act, the EELS have provided their own. His somewhat painful to watch set lasted approximately 20 minute and included a brief question and answer session about E and teh EELS.
Self-indulgent it was indeed. But, if you know EELS, that is what you expect and you would not be disappointed. A very heavy rock sound through most of the show with stripped down versions of all tunes. Krazy Al was a wonderful security enforcin', karate doin', work out performin', whip cream dispensin', hand slappin', commentatin' musician. E, Chet, and Knuckles did their thing superbly (E is a true genius and it was an honor and a privilege to be on the front row). Also, they have a very sad roadie who likes to yell at careful-not-to-touch-cables-and-pedals 10-year olds who have listened to EELS their entire lives who come on stage well after the end of the show to grab a pick that had been dropped by E during the set - he say’s he’s a 'cool roadie'... he is not - but I guess he does tune guitars well, though it was hard to tell!
