The first year of the new millennium (or is it the last of the old?) starts out as a triumphant year. The new EELS album Daisies Of The Galaxy is greeted by both fans and critics as a great album. The band is now an orchestra, dubbed 'The EELS Orchestra 2000', with a very special guest spot for Lisa Germano. Before heading out to Europe, EELS play a try out gig at The Roxy in Los Angeles.

    EUROPE 2000 - Leg 1

After a few try out gigs and (especially) tv performances, the real tour starts. Each show starts with an opening sequence is an orchestrated medley of EELS 'hits', an idea which apparently came to Butch in a dream. The Respect The Rock Tour (remember Tom Cruise in Magnolia? Then you'll know where the name came from...) is one of the most succesful EELS tours ever. At least, in Europe...

    U.S.A. 2000 - E opening for Fiona Apple

In America most band shows got cancelled due to budgetary reasons. So E had to go out by himself to promote the Daisies Of The Galaxy album. He did that by going out on the road ith Fiana Apple and itroducing himself by saying "Hi, we're the EELS". One of these solo-concerts makes up a great part of the Oh What A Beautiful Morning cd, that was sold (and is currently unavailable) on Eelstheband.com.

Big stars in Europe, but in America most shows get cancelled. But when the EELS rock the David Letterman Show, they make a lasting impression on the whole of the U.S.A.

    EUROPE 2000 - Leg 2

Back to the 'old continent' again, this time as semi-headliner to a lot of festivals. Due to popular demand, some headlining shows in theatres and clubs are booked as well. Longtime EELS roadie Spider gets his fifteen minutes of hilarious fame when he opens for those shows with his own songs, EELS covers and a question and answer session.

    AUSTRALIA and ASIA 2000

The first time ever in Australia for the EELS. The shows were rather special. But in the end the year that started as one of the most cheerful in the career of the EELS, turned into a tragedy again when on August 2nd EELS roadie Spider- who had acted as a support act during the last part of the tour - died of a heart attack. As a result of this some shows in Japan were cancelled.

    U.S.A. 2000 - Rescheduled and E solo shows

After cancelling the Bowery Ballroom gig twice, the EELS had to come back. So that's what they did, for just one more EELS Orchestra 2000 gig. E rounds off the year by playing some solo shows at The Largo and a very (yes, VERY) special one at The Getty.
